Nydailynews.com has reported that the Tony and Grammy Award-winning ‘Kinky Boots’ star Billy Porter wants to create a Harlem based drama for TV. Porter has been shopping the new TV series idea ‘SoHa’, about a group of black gay friends in their 40’s. The concept originally began as a play.
“(It) follows a character that’s loosely based on me and my archetype — that being a black, out, gay man that’s not on the down-low.” says Porter.
This would be an amazing show to have on network TV. Presenting something not seen too often, gay men in their 40’s and out black men not on the down-low. The lives and experiences of side from the type of case this kind of project would promote could potentially fill a much needed void. I’m curious where this project is in its development stage.
