FILM. ‘Moonlight’ Wins MTV Award For Best Kiss.

Kiss HeadBy Brandin LaKee Tolliver

‘Moonlight‘ actors Jharrel Jerome and Ashton Sanders win the MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss. And rightly so. That kiss was so HOT! Jerome and Sanders, who played young Kevin and Chiron respectively, in this years Best Picture Oscar winning film, proudly excepted the award.kiss3

The ceremony was hosted by comedian Adam Devine, for the first year as the newly rebranded MTV Movie & TV Awards. The category of Best Kiss is a fan favorite and what many consider to be the award shows best category. Well, next to Best Dance Sequence. Do they still do that one? Anyway, I couldn’t be happier to see some praise for and an award given to some Black on Black gay love. ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾

TV. Logo Gets Hot This Summer With ‘Fire Island’.

By brandin lakee tolliver

This is the true story of seven, hmm, six strangers picked to live in a house, blah blah blah, we know the format by now. Yet, occasionally, I’m susceptible to trashy reality TV. But after Logo’s ‘The A-List’, and the Lance Bass hosted Gay Bachelor series ‘Finding Prince Charming’, we’ve kinda been there and done it, literally, and with more swag in our own lives. But, I’ll bite. As soon as I saw the promo art, with the six guys looking like a gay Danity Kane, I said CUTE! A multicultural cast. And with show titled ‘Fire Island’, the trailer didn’t disappoint either. Hot guys, beaches, and the house is dope. I’m not even made at actor Patrick MacDonald (DTLA) for doing a reality show stint. The trailer seems to be trying to deliver the Fire Island experience, as it follows Khasan Brailsford, Cheyenne Parker, Justin Russo, Jorge Bustillos, Brandon Osorio, and Patrick MacDonald for the summer in gay Disneyland.

But with the release of the Fire Island trailer, came critics angry over the stereotypical depictions of guy men. I can’t judge, and even if I’m judging, I can’t hate. When I was a kid, I looked to TV for anything and everything gay to get a glimpse of how gay men lived. But the straight world rarely showed gay characters. If show had a gay character, they were celibate singles. If he does have a boyfriend, the most affection you saw was a hug. So for that 14 year old kid in Ohio, this show is for you! Honestly, after the bullshit that was 2016, everyone needs to relax and have some fun, so I’ll be watching. Fire Island airs April 27 on Logo TV. See the trailer below, as well as what the guys have to say to their haters. Will you be watching?

FILM. ‘Kiki N’ Brunch’ About PrEP.

By brandin lakee tolliver

AskMeAboutPrEP.org has released the fun short film ‘Kiki N’ Brunch,’ where viewers eavesdrop on a group of friends as they discuss life, love, and PrEP at brunch on a Sunday Funday.

The short, produced by AltaMed, aims to start, if not, keep the conversation going on the growing number of men of color being infected by the HIV virus, and how the use of PrEP is over 90% effective in preventing HIV when taken as prescribed. Having spent time working with the Stop AIDS Project in San Francisco, educating gay  men on gay men’s’ health, and encouraging the practice of safe sex, I was extremely excited for the arrival of the HIV preventing drug Truvada.  In all honesty, I could get into this as a regular series. Check out Kiki N Brunch below. Enjoy!
