TV. Logo Gets Hot This Summer With ‘Fire Island’.

By brandin lakee tolliver

This is the true story of seven, hmm, six strangers picked to live in a house, blah blah blah, we know the format by now. Yet, occasionally, I’m susceptible to trashy reality TV. But after Logo’s ‘The A-List’, and the Lance Bass hosted Gay Bachelor series ‘Finding Prince Charming’, we’ve kinda been there and done it, literally, and with more swag in our own lives. But, I’ll bite. As soon as I saw the promo art, with the six guys looking like a gay Danity Kane, I said CUTE! A multicultural cast. And with show titled ‘Fire Island’, the trailer didn’t disappoint either. Hot guys, beaches, and the house is dope. I’m not even made at actor Patrick MacDonald (DTLA) for doing a reality show stint. The trailer seems to be trying to deliver the Fire Island experience, as it follows Khasan Brailsford, Cheyenne Parker, Justin Russo, Jorge Bustillos, Brandon Osorio, and Patrick MacDonald for the summer in gay Disneyland.

But with the release of the Fire Island trailer, came critics angry over the stereotypical depictions of guy men. I can’t judge, and even if I’m judging, I can’t hate. When I was a kid, I looked to TV for anything and everything gay to get a glimpse of how gay men lived. But the straight world rarely showed gay characters. If show had a gay character, they were celibate singles. If he does have a boyfriend, the most affection you saw was a hug. So for that 14 year old kid in Ohio, this show is for you! Honestly, after the bullshit that was 2016, everyone needs to relax and have some fun, so I’ll be watching. Fire Island airs April 27 on Logo TV. See the trailer below, as well as what the guys have to say to their haters. Will you be watching?

FILM. Jay-Z To Produce Lee Daniels’ Richard Pryor Biopic.

Variety’s Dave McNary reports…

Lee Daniels has committed to directing The Weinstein Company’s Richard Pryor biopic with Jay Z on board to produce.

The Weinstein Company had decided in May to postpone the project, titled “Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said,” after Daniels, the showrunner of Fox’s hit series “Empire,” left the helming gig when he was unable to fit the movie shoot into his schedule. A start date is now set for early 2017.

The movie’s cast had been previously announced as Mike Epps as Pryor, Oprah Winfrey as his grandmother, and Kate Hudson as Pryor’s widow Jennifer Lee Pryor.

The script has been written by Bill Condon. The title of the movie is taken from Pyror’s Grammy-winning live album, released in 1975.
