TRANS/LATINOS: The Seattle Transgender Film Festival proudly boasts on its web page, “This year we have expanded to be the largest transgender film festival in the world!” Exhibiting 32 films, from 15 countries, over 14 days, at 5 unique venues, the festival has new and encore presentations of films meant to entertain, educate, and inspire. The festival also has two non-traditional elements for a film festival; a one-night-only Live Concert by Joe Stevens, and the Rae Spoon and Clyde Petersen hosted ‘Comics & Live Music with Clyde & Rae’ event.
Likewise, the Portland Queer Documentary Film Festival will feature a great lineup of films such as ‘Jewel’s Catch One,’ dubbed the Studio 54 of the west coast, the film documents the oldest black owned disco in America.
‘Baynard & Me,’ the story behind the how and why civil right activists Baynard Rustin adopted his longtime partner Walter Naegle in the 1980’s, in order to have the legal protections of marriage. The doc ‘The Death And Life Of Marsha P. Johnson’ investigates the mysterious death of the transgender activist, who also helped give birth to the modern Trans Rights Movement.
